Training/Consulting

Training and Consulting have become a great passion of mine. I have worked with small and large churches in a multitude of different ways. I am able to tailor workshops to fit your audience and needs. I have  deep passion for preaching to kids through camps and discipleship weekends as well as leading kids worship. For more information, or to let me custom tailor an equipping experience for you, please contact me.

Volunteer Equipping:

I am available to lead workshops for your volunteer or staff team on Fridays and/or Saturdays. There are a variety of ways to tailor  an equipping experience and we can easily work to meet your church’s or conference’s needs. Workshops can be adjusted to fit anywhere on the spectrum of presentation-based to discussion-based.

Teaching at the Next Level

There are certain foundational principles that a good teacher must think through prior to even stepping into the classroom. Sadly, many of the teachers in our Children’s Ministry are ill equipped to process a thoughtful “teaching philosophy” that drives how they choose to lead their class. Teaching at the Next Level is the solution. It sets the groundwork for good teaching before the first student walks into a classroom.

Saturated Ministry

Jesus should be first place in everything. Our ministry should be saturated by the supremacy of Christ. When this happens, and churches see the goal of the home to proclaim the supremacy of Christ, the next generation has a better chance of becoming devoted disciples. This workshop helps church leaders, parents, and volunteers to think through what a Christ saturated ministry looks like as well as begin to put into place specific parameters to establish that ministry.

Changing the Nest without Ruffling Feathers

Have you ever changed something, only to see it blow up in your face? We all have, but there is a way to do change effectively…a way to change elements of ministry for the better while getting ultimate buy in and avoiding the pitfalls of negativity. This workshop exhibits 8 principles for effective change that will propel your ministry to places it has never been.

All Eyes On You: Large Group Leadership

Do kids yawn when you get up on stage? Perhaps they get too crazy and you can’t bring them back in for quieter times? Large group leadership (30+ kids) is an art, but anyone can learn it. If you want to have kids eating out of the palm of your hand (proverbially, of course!), then you need to know how to avoid the two errors of being a “pushover” or a “drill sergeant” so that you can lead large groups with excitement and finesse.

The Coming Generation

Psalm 78 outlines the importance of the coming generation in the process of passing on a faith legacy. But what does this coming generation look like and what does the Bible have to say about that? Utilizing contemporary research and biblical insight, you will gain a better understanding of what leaving a faith legacy means and just how important that is.

Creative Group Control

Have you ever walked into a room where the kids were out of control? What did you do? What did the teacher do? This workshop teaches proven group control techniques that keep your kids focused on your plan for the morning so that the plan doesn’t get sabotaged by out of control behavior.

Clarity: Children and the Gospel

What is the gospel and how should we communicate it to children? Is it possible that we have so Americanized the gospel message with cutesy language and inappropriate metaphor that children might actually be missing the point? Could we be leading children to false assurance by our unclear communication? This training will deeply challenge you to think through how you communicate the gospel to children and students.

Getting Your Church to Love Children

Sure you know that children’s ministry is one of the greatest areas of investment for the church, but do others in your pews have the same understanding? You will learn effective ways to help children be a priority in your budgeting, church emphasis, and outreach, thus leading your church to a next generation orientation.

Engaging Families in Your Ministry

Sure you know Deuteronomy 6:4-9, but do the parents in your ministry? Do they know they are to be the primary spiritual leaders in their child’s lives? This workshop will provide you with tools to equip the families in your ministry with confidence to take on spiritual leadership.

Helping Kids Navigate the Bible

The generation now is possibly the most biblically illiterate in several hundred years. But there are a vast amount of resources available that parents and ministries can use to help children understand Scripture. This workshop shows how to teach the inductive study method to kids as well as presents resources from which your ministry can benefit.

Here’s the word on the street:

Andy Johnson can bring practical yet cutting edge help to your ministry. Not only does he serve in a local church as a Children’s Pastor, he is also a scholar who is now finishing his doctorate in Christian Education. If you would like to challenge, motivate and/or inspire your church workers and leaders, have Andy give you a hand.

-Dr. John McMurphy, President, Mid-Atlantic Christian Education Association

Rev. Andy Johnson has shared with our students many times over the past several years. He is an energetic and effective communicator of the gospel. Andy’s love for children’s souls is apparent as he encourages student participation in his interactive Bible lessons revealing the truth of God’s Word.

-Kim Earp, Bethesda Christian Academy, Chapel Coordinator

Having sat underneath Andy’s teaching at workshops, I have personally benefitted from Andy’s expertise in the area of children’s ministry. He is a great leader, a gifted teacher, and an innovator in ministry. I can attest that he is a man of God who models what he teaches.

-Tillie Turlington, Children’s Ministry Director, Christ Baptist of Raleigh, NC

Andy has a great heart for kids and is a wonderful communicator.

-Alison Folwell, Children’s Minister, Haw River Christian Church of Haw River, NC

I’ve watched God work through Andy since 2001. His heart to reach children and families with the gospel is only overshadowed by his love of God and His Word. He creatively takes the message of daily surrender and puts it into a child’s language. He believes that kids can know God, worship God, and serve God.

-Patrick Newbill, Children’s Pastor at Hoffmantown Baptist Church, Albuquerque, NM

Never before have I seen or heard someone with so much passion for reaching families for Christ.  Andy brings such a kingdom mindedness in his teaching and training.  His dynamic delivery and exuberance in speaking leaves you on the edge of your seat the entire time.  Beware of exponential ministry depth after having Andy as a trainer or consultant!

-Philip Biles, Children’s Pastor at Lake Hills Church, Austin, TX
